A 50-year-old man of Kapiri Mposhi is detained in Police custody for allegedlyaxing his ex-wife and her 4-year-old daughter to death.
According to information gathered by Daily Revelation, the suspect Gershom Simukanzya allegedly murdered Ireen Nyimbiri 25, and her daughter identified as Astridah Mangaiko in Chisengaman’ga area in chief Mukonchi’s Chiefdom.
Central Province Commissioner Police Roy Kashimba has confirmed the incident which happened around 18:00 hours on November, 22, 2023.
Kashimba said the suspect was however, arrested on November, 23, 2023 at about 07:00 hours around the Kapiri Mposhi Central Business District (CBD)and was found armed with two axes.
The Central Province Police Commissioner said the woman sustained deep cuts on the shoulder and back of the neck whilst her child sustained a deep cut on the shoulder and forehead from the axe attack.
He said the brother to the deceased reported the incident at the police.
“Isaac Nyimbiri aged 27 reported that his younger sister Ireen Nyimbiri aged 25 and her daughter Astridah Mangaiko aged four of the same address have been murdered by Gershom Simukanzya also of Chisengang’a area. An axe is said to have been used in the act. The suspect is in police custody,” said Kashimba.
He said the suspect is currently detained in police custody while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in Kapiri Mposhi Urban Clinic Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
