A Lusaka couple accused of killing their 14-year-old girl maid has been committed to the High Court for trial.
The couple has been charged with one count of murder contrary to the laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that on August 28, 2023 and August 30, the couple in Lusaka jointly and while acting together murdered Janet Chola Mpundu.
In September, the couple was arrested and detained in connection with the murder of their maid.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale confirmed this in a statement.
“Brief details of the offence are that on August 30, 2023 around 09:00 hours, the couple identified as Majory Chanda Lulembo and Smart Mumba 30 and 36 respectively went to the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) Police Post with the dead body of Janet Chola, their maid, to obtain the Brought In Dead (BID)certificate over her death.Upon reporting, Police suspected foul play as the body had multiple physical injuries and immediately investigations were instituted which led to the detention of the suspects in Police custody,” Mwale stated.
He stated that further investigations revealed that the couple on August 29, 2023 had a physical confrontation with the deceased.
