RESTORE GENDER MINISTRY, WOMEN INSIST

By Merlyn Mwanza

NGOCC board chairman Grace Sinkamba says the women are extremely concerned with moving forward the gender agenda following the decision by the President to scrap off the ministry of gender.

Speaking during the International Women’s Day commemorations in Kabwe, Sinkamba said the decision to scrap off the Ministry has moved the nation backwards in moving forward the women agenda, urging the administration to reconsider the recreation of the gender ministry.

She said the women were concerned with some developments in the country despite noting the positive developments, including increased CDF, re-introduction of free education and bursaries.

Sinkamba noted that access to technological gadgets which are critical in navigating the digital space continues to disadvantage the women.

Guest of honour at the event, Vice-President Mutale Nalumango said women were still under represented in science and technology, and that President Hichilema was committed to addressing gender inequality by implementing programmes targeted at girls and women, including opportunities for postgraduate scholarships in increasing access in sciences, technology and engineering.
