The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has disclosed that it secured the forfeiture of more than K183 million worth of properties in the second half of 2024

This includes cash, houses, cars, farms, apartments and  jewelry among others.

ACC acting director general Monica Mwansa stated in the latest bi-annual newsletter for July to December 2024, that the Commission achieved successful convictions and the forfeiture of assets to the state during this period.

Mwansa stated that among the significant outcomes were the convictions of former Defence minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM), former Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo, PF cadre Francis Muchemwa and (Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) director general Kenneth Nyundu.

She stated that these convictions underscored the Commission’s ongoing commitment to fighting both past and present corruption.

Mwansa stated that the commission also secured successful forfeiture of properties to the state through a conviction and non-conviction based forfeiture.

“These include the forfeiture of properties valued at over K100 million from a Zambian owned company, Altitude Apartments and Simoonga farm from former Defence PS Stardy Mwale,” she stated.

Mwansa stated that the Commission remained determined to fight past, present and future corruption vigorously without fear or favour and bring the offenders to book.

And Mwansa stressed the importance of educating the public on various corruption reporting mechanisms, including the recently launched Online Anonymous Whistleblower System (OAWS), which enabled users to report corruption cases discreetly and interact with the Commission.

She stated that there was need to promote the use of this tool within communities while continuing to utilise traditional methods of reporting corruption.

“Be assured of legal protection when reporting corruption in good faith. The fight against corruption is not for the faint-hearted. We all need to be courageous to reduce this vice to detestable levels in the country,” stated Mwansa.
