Mwenya Musenge says there is rampant corruption in the issuance of mining licences at cadastre department, saying there is urgent need to disband the current team and constitute a new one.
Musenge, who is Advocates for People’s Prosperity leader, has also advised chief government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa to stop justifying the wrongs that are happening in the UPND administration.
In an interview with Daily Revelation, Musenge said there is rampant corruption in the department of cadastre in the issuance of mining licences.
“There’s no way eight mining licences can be overlapping each other on the same mining site. There is rampant corruption in cadastre department. Therefore, there is urgent need to disband the team there and constitute a new group,” Musenge said.
He also said that President Hakainde Hichilema should stop protecting individuals alleged to have been involved in corrupt activities, saying the office of the Head of State has a blind eye to relationships.
“The office that President Hakainde Hichilema is holding has a blind eye to friends, associates and relatives. And that is why that office enjoys some immunity. There’s need, therefore, for His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema’s to start taking bold decisions, even if they might be unpleasant to certain individuals,” said Musenge.
And Musenge said it is morally wrong for Mweetwa to be justifying the wrong things being done by individuals serving in the UPND government.
Musenge urged Mweetwa to reflect on the many issues affecting the welfare of the Zambian people before defending the undefendable.
“Honourable Cornelius Mweetwa is an educated person, and I personally don’t expect him to be defending the undefendable. Mweetwa, being a chief government spokesperson or is spokesperson for the UPND, should analyse things. Reflect on the many issues affecting the welfare of Zambians before defending the undefendable,” Musenge said. “He should stop justifying the wrongs that are happening in the UPND administration. And the UPND should realise that they are not in the opposition but in government. It is for this reason that I urge them to concentrate on developing the country, as opposed to continuously heaping blame on the Patriotic Front for their failures. That is tantamount to leadership failure.”
He also said he expected the Choma Central member of parliament to appreciate that certain transactions require the involvement of some legal experts before they are effected.
“There is a specific amount of money that should be drawn by the counter in a bank. But the transaction that Honourable Stanley Kakubo was involved in required some lawyers to be involved. ZRA (Zambia Revenue Authority) and the Bank of Zambia should have been involved. So there could be some element of money laundering,” said Musenge.
