UPND party spokesman Cornelius Mweetwa says Bill number 7 is unstoppable.
Speaking during the press briefing at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka yesterday, Mweetwa said the UPND was going to win with a landslide in Parliament today, when Bill 7 comes for second reading.
“Otherwise, Bill number 7 is forward looking. Bill number 7 is going to be debated, determined and voted upon tomorrow and Bill 7 will go through, via a landslide vote in Parliament and wide majority,” Mweetwa said. “Where we stand today, Bill number 7 is unstoppable, Bill number 7 is unstoppable. And this will not be by way of arrogance of numbers on the floor of the house. This will be by way of consensus.”
And Mweetwa said Chishimba Kambwili was just “hallucinating” when he said that those who will vote for Bill 7 were going to be arrested after the change of government.
He said members of parliament had immunity whatever they did on the floor of Parliament.
“So hallucinations by people like Kambwili who are saying that those who will vote for Bill 10 will be arrested, that is a mere mental figmentation of frustration and not anchored on any legal and judiciable and substantiable basis,” Mweetwa said. “Nothing, zero! So dear colleagues, members of parliament tomorrow the nation, the whole nation will be looking at you. But, l want you to know, each one of you tomorrow is not about you. It is about the nation. It is about women. Are you standing on the side of women?”
Meanwhile, Mweetwa dismissed the list which was circulating on social media which was showing members of the opposition who were likely to vote for Bill 7.
“So, we have also seen circulating on social media, a list of members of parliaments said that these are the ones who are going to vote for Bill number 7 and that this, l think they are 22 or so. If these don’t vote for Bill number 7, Bill number 7 will collapse,” said Mweetwa.
“We would like the citizens to dismiss that list with the contempt it deserves and stop ostracising those members of parliament who are on that list.”
