Nkana member of parliament Binwell Mpundu has been suspended from Parliament for seven days for disorderly conduct.

This was after the lawmaker was named after he was found to have acted in breach of parliamentary decorum during Parliament yesterday.

First deputy speaker Malungo Chisangano said Mpundu had continued to debate while sited when the house was just talking about how to observe decorum and etiquette of the house.

“There are rules in this house, apparently this house does not belong to you, and this is the people’s house. Let’s observe the rules of the house,” she said.

Chisangano said Mpundu was not remorseful as he was chatting while the speaker was guiding him.

“I think we should give you a break because the behavior seems to be crewing each day, despite the warning we gave to all the members of parliament to observe decorum but you are going against. And you are answering the presiding officer, I think I have been so patient with you. The Zambians are also tired some of them listening to unruly and disorder behavior in the house. My hands are tied,” she said. “I find your behavior grossly disorderly and sending you away from today’s sitting is insufficient punishment.

“I’m going to put a question for the disorderly conduct of Mpundu. The question is that Mpundu be suspended from the service of the house for a period of seven sitting days from tomorrow July 4 to July 17.”

He was informed not to enter the Parliament building, nor attend Parliament buildings during the time of his suspension.
