CAF POSTPONES CHAN TO AUG 2025

CAF has postponed the 2025 CHAN tournament from next month to August this year because of infrastructure failing to meet its deadlines.

The CHAN was set to be co-hosted by Kenya,Tanzania and Uganda from February 1 to 28.

Up to midday on Tuesday, CAF had even released a statement that the draws would be conducted today Wednesday at 19h00 Zambian time in Nairobi.

However, CAFs position changed after 18h30 on Tuesday when it released another statement confirming it wss postponing the CHAN.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) today announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 to August 2025,” CAF stated.

“Good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.

“However the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.”

Kenya in particular have been struggling to finish their venues on time in Nairobi.

The Chipolopolo CHAN team has been in camp in Lusaka under Wedson Nyirenda anticipating Wednesdays draw.

Chipolopolo qualified via a walkover after Mozambique withdrew due to political instability in their country.
