Chingola Municipal has disbursed K7 million in terminal benefits to 35 retired employees.

In a statement, council assistant public relations manager Evelyn Mulenga, announced the disbursement.

“We are thrilled to have disbursed K7,000,000.00 in terminal benefits to 35 retired employees, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to those who have diligently served the community over the years.” Mulenga  stated.

“This achievement was made possible through a recent payment from Konkola Copper Mines Plc (KCM) under the newly implemented Creditors’ Scheme of Arrangement.”

Mulenga highlighted the council’s dedication to fulfilling its obligations saying that the authority had  also remitted K5,004,447.97 in statutory obligations to NAPSA, allowing eligible employees to access a 20 percent partial withdrawal from their contributions, thereby supporting their financial well-being in retirement.

She stated that council’s investments in the community were also yielding positive results, with the completion of the Chiwempala Market Shelter (Phase 1) at a total cost of K2,817,578.24, accommodating 216 traders and contributing to the economic growth and development of the Chingola district.

Mulenga added that the funding received from KCM had facilitated the commencement of phase two of the fire station construction, enhancing emergency services for the residents of Chingola.

She stated that the council was set to begin construction of phase  two of the Chiwempala Market Shelter before the end of September, further enhancing the facility and better meeting the evolving needs of the community.

Mulenga expressed the council’s appreciation to the government for its role in unlocking KCM funding, enabling the implementation of these initiatives.

“As we continue to implement these initiatives, we are confident that they will have a lasting impact on the community. Our goal is to create a sustainable and prosperous future for the residents of Chingola, and we are committed to working tirelessly to achieve this vision,” said Mulenga.
