National Democratic Congress secretary general Charles Kabwita has challenged the UPND government to come out clean on speculations that they intend to advance the promotion of homosexuality in Zambia, following the arrest of Dr Brian Sampa who staged a protest against same sex marriages in the country.
And Kabwita has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to check his shoulders, saying a lot of bad things have happened “under his watch since he assumed power a year ago.”
Kabwita said that Dr Sampa was within his rights to conduct a peaceful protest against an agenda that is perceived to start encouraging gayism and lesbianism in the country.
He explained that Dr Sampa had embarked on a noble cause aimed at denouncing practices that are in conflict with Christian values and principles.
“The peaceful protest that Dr Sampa staged on Friday against an agenda perceived to advance homosexuality in Zambia is a noble cause because it is in conflict with the laws of Zambia and against our Christian values and principles, especially that this country is a Christian nation. This is my own opinion,” Kabwita said. “It is for this reason that I would like to challenge the UPND government to come out clean on speculations that they want to advance an agenda aimed at promoting homosexuality where women can easily marry their fellow women and men marrying their fellow men. And as National Democratic Congress, we feel that the swift action by the Zambia Police to thwart the protest by Dr Sampa is not only regrettable but also retrogressive in a democratic dispensation like Zambia.”
Kabwita said that the incidences that have happened in the recent past where a “festivity was staged in Lusaka where the men were clad in female attire, pupils were sodomised and a named Copperbelt based musician was “sexually abused by some women” that gave him a lift from Lusaka to Ndola, among others; have raised eyebrows among the general citizenry, hence the need for the current administration to state its position on the said matters.
And Kabwita has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema should check his shoulders, saying a lot of wrong things have happened “under his watch from the time the UPND formed government a year ago.”
“In as much as we appreciate the fact that President Hakainde Hichilema wants to approach and do things in a methodical manner, I think the President should be told that a lot of wrong things have been happening, some of them happening without his knowledge, from the time that the UPND formed government. And I think that President Hakainde Hichilema should check his shoulders because he is being misinformed.”
Kabwita further challenged Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba to “take off the UPND jumper,” and start discharging his duties professionally.
“The Police Command, in this case the Inspector General of Police Mr Lemmy Kajoba, should be non-partisan, professional and stop using the UPND lences. Ba Kajoba should take off the UPND jumper and start discharging his duties professionally,” said Kabwita.
