Edgar’s stop the nonsense urge

By Daily Revelation Editor

Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba is saying that former president Edgar Lungu cultivated the same thuggery nonsense that he is complaining about today.

It is now public knowledge that Edgar strongly urged his successor President Hakainde Hichilema to stop the nonsense of hooliganism that was happening under his watch, with UPND thugs now seeming to be in control of national affairs than the people who were elected into office. We actually saw a situation over the weekend where machete wielding UPND thugs seemed to have been working with the police in trampling over the constitutional rights of the other Zambians to freely associate.

Just the mere fact of other Zambians seeking to freely associate and communicate thought, angered these idiots so much that they were ready to commit murder. They were ready to hack other Zambians with machetes over a rally. Just imagine the insanity for a second.

Did the police see these criminals? Even if they did, that surely seems not to concern them as much as arresting people’s freedoms, as opposed to the thuggery these little thieves are exhibiting. They are everyday making a mockery of Hakainde’s usual claims that he had managed to end caderism in the country. Of course, this should not come as a surprise to those who know Hakainde when it comes to his unrepentant propensity to boast, even when there is nothing to show for his boasting. Maybe later on this. Today we want to focus on the very important issues Wynter has raised about Edgar’s hypocrisy.

Here is Edgar calling another person to the virtues that are alien to himself. How many times did Zambians complain about the thuggery and caderism that was so rampant under the PF, and every time Zambia’s complained Edgar dismissed them by actually appearing with the same cadres and declaring that they were part of his office?

Wynter says if Lungu had put his house in order, by reforming the Judiciary, police and other state institutions, he would not be complaining today. The problem is that he allowed power to get to his head and thought he was going to rule this country forever, in the Lesa kumulu Lungu panshi fashion. He did not envisage a time when he would be out of office, either through an election loss or after serving out his terms of office, to prepare for his time out of office by creating a society he was going to be happy with. This is the cancer that seems to infect presidents and those in power in this country. We just did not realise the same was going to infect Hakainde so easily, especially with the harsh lessons and injustices he suffered during his 15 years in the opposition.

Instead of working to reform the institutions to bring out the best in society, he is busy allowing impunity to reign supreme. He is allowing the police and other state institutions to trample on people’s rights. These are things Edgar was warned about repeatedly when he had the reins of power but he failed to do anything. Today he is angry, and justifiably so. at how the same institutions which served his ends are now being used against him and his friends.

There are actually those in the opposition who can’t wait to get into power and effect retribution at the injustices they are facing. They are more concerned with retribution than getting back into office so that they can rectify their errors in order to create a just society they will be proud to live, with or without state power.

For those who are in government, they are seeking ways of how to sustain their stay in power so that they could continue abusing state institutions, and have no iota of interest in terms of advancing public good.

Today, Edgar is regretting, tomorrow it could well be Hakainde. Politicians don’t learn. They are incorrigible beings.
