Energy expert expects further reduction in fuel prices

Energy expert Boniface Zulu says he expects a further reduction in fuel prices due to the newly implemented Open Access policy, which enables various players in the sector to use the TAZAMA pipeline thereby cutting on transportation costs.

In an interview with Daily Revelation over the weekend, Zulu said the open access policy had cut down on the transportation costs that importing companies would face in the transportation of fuel, making the commodity cheaper at the pump.

He said the Open Access policy would make fuel cheaper at the pump, and urged the government to invest in reserve capacities in order to move away from monthly fuel price reviews.

Zulu suggested that investing in storage facilities would enable a stable fuel sector, which would keep prices of goods and services unchanged for a long period.

He said this could positively impact Zambia if the government could act against fluctuating international oil prices and urged them to address this concern and have the right approach to safeguarding the fuel sector.
