The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has extended Zesco’s power tariffs for another three months.
In a press statement yesterday, ERB board chairperson James Banda stated that the situation which led to the emergency still existed.
“Following an application by ZESCO, the ERB has determined that the factors that led to the declaration of the emergency still exist. Despite there being good rainfall during the just ended rain season, water levels in the major reservoirs remain inadequate, leading to insufficient electricity generation from most hydropower plants,” Banda stated
“In view of the foregoing, the ERB has resolved to extend the emergency period for a further period of three (3) months. Consequently, the ERB has further resolved to maintain and extend the approved October 2024 emergency period tariffs and directives for an additional three (3) months effective 1st August to 31st October 2025.”
Banda stated that the emergency power tariffs have been subject to review by ERB every three months, with the last review being April 2025.
