Energy Regulation Board (ERB) Chairperson Reynolds Bowa says the board will try its best to implement the predictable fuel price mechanism, but did not indicate when this will be effected.
Asked by Daily Revelation to give his views on the President’s order to the new permanent secretary Peter Mumba to devise a fuel price mechanism that will be predictable and minimize economic impacts on citizens, Bowa said: “We will try our best.”
He then went straight to
praise the appointment of Mumba as the new permanent secretary in the Ministry of Energy, having taken over from Himba Cheelo who has been transferred to the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
He said the Ministry has a new permanent secretary with wisdom and knowledge.
“The Ministry of Energy has got a new permanent secretary who comes with a lot of experience, wisdom and knowledge and we look forward to working with him in the national interest,” Bowa said.
Asked if the nation will see this more stable review at the end of this month which the President mentioned, Bowa said: “Well, we still have to work on this, so we will see.”
Asked if he agreed with the position that the monthly reviews have been making planning difficult for business and people, Bowa said he would not want to get into a discussion with the President.
“You are trying to get me into a discussion with the President, it’s not something that I can comment on at this point,” Bowa said and pivoted again to praising the appointment of Mumba. “What I can say is that we welcome the appointment of a man of immense experience and knowledge and we look forward to working with him.”
But asked again on the order from the President and how soon the nation will see the order implemented, Bowa referred the question to the permanent secretary and not himself.
