UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda has charged that Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has lost political direction and his utterances cannot be taken seriously anymore by Zambians, describing him as a man who shamelessly went back to PF with “his tail-in-between his legs” after calling them thieves.
Recently, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, popularly known as GBM told Daily Revelation in an interview that made the UPND known.
Reacting to this statement, Imenda said that the former defence minister cannot claim to be popular because he failed to prove his popularity in the Northern circuit where he claimed to be popular during the time he worked with the UPND while in opposition.
He said that GBM is a politician who is full of contradictions, saying the man cannot be trusted.
“When GBM came in the UPND, he found that we were the strongest opposition political party in the country. When he joined us, he created an impression that he was going to win us some popularity in the Northern circuit; namely Muchinga, Luapula Province and Northern Province. We went in an election with him but he could not win us a single councillor. His daughter was adopted to contest the parliamentary seat in Kasama where GBM previously served as member of parliament, but she lost. Even then, we could not win a single local government seat. And yet this is an area where the father had been claiming to have some popularity in inverted commas.” Imenda explained. “He also created an impression that he will help us gain popularity in Eastern Province by taking advantage of his traditional cousinship. Records are there to sho w if he helped us to penetrate the Eastern Province. And if that is what he is claiming to be popularity, then I don’t know what he is talking about.”
He continued unleashing on GBM.
“When GBM came to the UPND he said that he will never go back to the Patriot Front because they are a bunch of thieves. Weeks later, without any shame and with his tail in-between his legs, the man went back to the Patriot Front – the political party he said was corrupt,” said Imenda. “When rejoining the PF, GBM made some proclamations that he will ensure that he finishes the UPND and that a lot of our members will follow him to join the PF. And you are reporters, I am sure you have done your research. How many of our members went with GBM to join the PF? None! The problem with this man is that he looks at his face and thinks that he can make an impact on the UPND to an extent of destroying the UPND. GBM is a politician who is full of contradictions. He thinks that Zambians are robots with a short memory to remember whatever utterances he makes. So what I can tell you is that GBM has lost political direction and his utterances cannot be taken seriously anymore by Zambians.”
