Rehabilitation of a total of 536 kilometers of feeder roads in Kapiri Mposhi district has commenced.

The government through the Ministry of Local Government has awarded tenders collectively worth over K600 million to 16 Zambian contractors to rehabilitate various feeder roads and those leading to chief’s palaces in the district.

Kapiri Mposhi Council Secretary, Isaac Zimba says six out of the 16 contractors engaged to work on respective contracted roads have already mobilized on site and commenced the works.

The feeder roads to be rehabilitated include those leading to all the three chiefdom palaces namely Chipepo, Nkole and Mukonchi.

In an interview on Tuesday, Zimba said that the road rehabilitation project to be implemented over an eight to 12 month contractual period will ease transportation of goods and services once completed.

He says the development will help in actualising government’s economic diversification agenda through the agriculture sector in the area.

“As you may be aware these roads have been in a deplorable state for sometime now despite being crucial to the agriculture sector in terms of smooth transportation of farming produce and inputs,” Zimba observed.

And Kapiri Mposhi District Director of Works, Justine Phiri has said that the road works will comprise full gravelling, repair and installation of new culverts, bridges and road furniture on the targeted roads.

“The contract is coming with auxiliary infrastructure to add value and lifespan of the roads to be worked on,” said Phiri.
