President Hakainde Hichilema says his government is committed to investing in the aviation sector in the Northern Corridor in order to open up the Northern Circuit.
Speaking at Kasama Airport before departing for Nakonde to officiate at the Umutomolo Traditional Ceremony yesterday, President Hichilema said the government remained steadfast to achieve this, as can be seen by the rehabilitation of Kasama airport to international standards.
The President emphasised the importance of modernising Nakonde, a vital transit area, to facilitate efficient movement of goods and people, stating that his government would modernise it to make it more efficient.
President Hakainde Hichilema also announced plans to construct airports in Nakonde and Chinsali to international standards, opening up these areas for business within and outside Zambia.
He also revealed plans to invest in irrigation systems in the Northern region, leveraging its abundant natural resources and water supply.
“I should not be called to launch the planting season, there is no planting season, planting season is every month. Harvesting season is every month,” he said.
President Hichilema also called on UPND members to work in unity, supporting those in office and giving them the opportunity to serve.
The President talked about the importance of unity and cooperation within the party, saying these two components were critical factors in achieving the government’s development goals.
He urged UPND members to put aside differences and work towards a common purpose, fostering an environment of collaboration and mutual support.
“We need to work together, support each other, and give those in office the opportunity to serve,” he said.
President Hichilema further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transformative development.
“Our focus on irrigation systems and aviation infrastructure is aligned with our broader vision for sustainable development and economic growth in Zambia; we are determined to unlock the Northern Corridor’s full potential,” said President Hichilema.
