President Hakainde Hichilema has condemned the attempted assassination on former United States of America president Donald Trump.
Trump was injured on Saturday evening during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in what the FBI said was an assassination attempt.
A gunman and at least one audience member died while two other attendees were critically injured.
President Hichilema said extremism, anarchy, criminality, and lawlessness had no place in any society.
“We in Zambia are saddened by the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump,” he said.
He said the world joined the USA in condemning this criminal act, and to learn lessons for the future.
The President also wished former president Trump a quick and full recovery.
The former president was rushed offstage with blood on his ear and face after a shooting during his Saturday evening rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump fell to the ground, seemingly injured, after the first pop of shots rang out.
Screams could be heard coming from the onlookers as security personnel surrounded the former president and led him away from the lectern.
Trump appeared to be calling out to the crowd and could be seen pumping his fist as he was brought to his feet and whisked away into a vehicle offstage.
However, the Secret Service State said in a statement that Trump was “safe.”
