HH transferring ministers to divert attention from corruption rot – Changala

By Esther Chisola

Human Rights activist Brebner Changala says the transfer of Peter Kapala from the Ministry of Energy to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is an attempt to divert the current hot issues of corruption in the country.

Last Friday, President Hakainde Hichilema transferred Kapala to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and moved Makozo Chikote to the Ministry of Energy.

And yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema transferred Sylvia Masebo from the scandal ridden Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Lands, in exchange for Elijah Muchima who has moved to replace her from the Ministry of Lands.

The President directed the Ministers to discharge their functions with due diligence in their new roles.

But in an interview with Daily Revelation, Changala said the nation wanted the President to address them over the recent happenings in the country unlike him transferring ministers.

“The happenings in the last two weeks needed a public statement from the President not this swapping of ministers that will resolve literally nothing. Even when swapping them, there must be a reason. What does he want to achieve? He must always communicate with the people who gave him the mandate. Unfortunately, that’s not happening,” he said.

Changala said the President needed to address Dr O’Brien Kaaba’s allegations on how his fight against corruption came to a disgraceful end because it concentrated on the previous administration while ignoring the current happening.

“The President needed to relieve the Solicitor General of his duties as he embarked on a struggle to clear his name. That’s what we wanted to hear. The President needed to explain as to whether he was aware of the happenings at the Anti-Corruption Commission being a President that is privileged to have intelligence reports on a daily basis. I don’t know how that would have eluded him,” he said.

Changala has, however, called upon the President to address the nation on the 61 containers that were stored at a private warehouse.

“That is a matter of serious importance that the President needed to address. The swapping of Kapala and somebody else to go elsewhere is neither here nor there because it doesn’t carry an effective explanation as to what will be the benefit to the country and its people,’ said Changala.
