Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba says accusations of corruption and looting will follow President Hakainde Hichilema well after he has left his office.Speaking with Daily Revelation on the award of the contract to African Life Financial Services Zambia Limited, a consultancy company that has been awarded a contract for the environmental protection fund management by the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development and is said to be linked to President Hichilema, something the UPND administration has said that the President did not influence as he gave up his shares in the firm a long time ago, with ACC saying they would not waste time investigating assumptions, Kabimba said the ACC must investigate allegations against the President as the people raising assertions are not investigators for the commission to challenge them to investigate the President’s influence in the award of contracts.
He said when the public raise matters, they were doing so out of general principle so that those tasked with investigations could investigate them and then get back to the public on their findings.
“They can’t dismiss Honourable Nawakwi’s assertion to say we can’t waste time. They have to waste time to satisfy the citizen,” Kabimba said. “Even if they don’t do it now, these things will still follow HH after he’s left office. They are not doing him a favour.”Kabimba said as a general principle to those holding office, it is not right that companies linked to the President must be given upperhand in doing business.
He wondered why companies linked to the President were now all of a sudden often getting important public contracts which was not the case before he had influence over public policy, saying assumptions that he influenced deals could therefore not outrightly be dismissed.
