Hichilema suspends 3 ConCourt judges … the court is currently looking into the eligibility of Lungu to contest future elections

President Hakainde Hichilema has suspended three Constitutional court judges.

In a statement issued by State House Chief  Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the President stated that the three judges namely Judge Annie Sitali, Judge Mungeni Mulenga and Judge Palani Mulonda were suspended after he received a report from the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC) recommending their suspension.

“President Hakainde Hichilema has with immediate effect acting on the recommendation in the report to him by the Judicial Complaints Commission suspended three (3) judges of the Constitutional Court of Zambia,” read the statement in part.

“The suspended include Judge Annie Sitali, Judge Mungeni Mulenga and Judge Palani Mulonda. The suspension of the three is in exercise of the powers vested in the President in Article 144 (3) of the constitution of Zambia.”

The Constitutional Court is currently considering the eligibility of President Hichilema’s opponent, former president Edgar Lungu to contest future elections.
