President Hakainde Hichilema has swiftly transferred Health Minister Sylvia Masebo to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources amidst demands from various stakeholders for her to step down or address the nation on the scandal relating to the discovery of 61 containers of drugs which were stored at J and J warehouse instead of Zambia Medical and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) stores.
Masebo has come under fire with some demanding that she dissolves the board or the President fires her.
Some stakeholders have argued that what has happened at the Ministry was equivalent to committing crimes against humanity and those involved must be taken to task.
President has instead moved Lands Minister Elijah Muchima to the Ministry of Health, from the same Lands Ministry that has been accused of giving out huge chunks of land to foreigners for questionable partnerships.
In a statement, issued by State House Chief Communications specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the President has since urged and directed the ministers to discharge their functions with due diligence in their new roles.
“President Hakainde Hichilema has pursuant to Article 92 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia transferred Honourable Sylvia.T. Masebo, MP to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and Honourable Elijah Muchima MP to the Ministry of Health with immediate effect,” stated Hamasaka stated.
The discovery of drugs at a private warehouse, has led to the suspension of the ZAMMSA board director Victor Nyasulu.
