Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Tom Shamakamba has challenged TFM Holdings executive chairman Mcebisi Mlonzi to provide evidence of corruption against Sylvia Masebo, saying he does not lead a team of sangomas (witchdoctors) who need to guess what they should investigate.
Speaking with Daily Revelation on TFM Holdings executive director Mlonzi who said his allegations against Masebo are true as she has not acted on her threat, 11-months after she threatened to sue him for alleging that she solicited R2 million bribe and a Mercedes Benz in order for him to win the $100 million contract to construct hospitals, Shamakamba challenged Mlonzi to provide evidence, adding that he was ready to meet him anytime and
move in on Health minister Masebo if such were provided to him.
“Me I have told you I don’t lead a team of sangomas. Bring the people who have the evidence, we record the evidence which will give us the lead where and we move and we arrest her. Simple as that,” Shamakamba said.
Mlonzi indicated that his team had filed a complaint with the commission over a year ago, and it was therefore up to the commission to follow up on the matter and inform the public.
He also indicated that he was surprised that no action has taken place on the matter since the complaint was filed, and Shamakamba was also asked if it was not the duty of the commission to show interest in the matter and do the necessary follow-ups, however Shamakamba responded: “Is he sure that there was nothing done to call her?”
Asked if he meant calling Masebo, Shamakamba said: “Yes! Is he sure about that?”
He said Mlonzi did not expect ACC to have to call him if “surely” he had evidence.
“Listen my brother, call the guy who is alleging that the minister did this. Arrange, he comes with all the witnesses you have. Confirm that he is able to come. I will arrange investigators to come and sit down with him, (so that) he gives us all the lead which will crucify honourabe Masebo and we will get her if he has concrete evidence,” Shamakamba said. “I don’t want people to be judged through the press. So if him he’s saying he has got evidence, he has not been called, he lodged, me I am asking through you, if he has credible evidence, he has witnesses call me in the next one hour I will be ready with my team.”
He said the media was pushing the matter, but he was told that they were simply making follow ups and asking pertinent questions on the matter.
“You are the one pushing this matter. I am literally saying reach out to the guy who is a complainant to say DG is waiting for you, can you arrange with your witnesses you meet DG, he is able to meet you with his team, he gets all the evidence and he moves on,” Shamakamba said, and urged the media to actually do the pushing. “If people who are serving in public (offices) are not clean, why shouldn’t you push? Don’t run away from that struggle. You are part of us. Why should you run away if you know something is happening with one minister? Why should you run away? What’s your duty to motherland?”
He said if the complainant has evidence, which would move him to sign documents, he was ready to meet him any time.
“So I have given you the task. Let him contact me directly, I am able to meet him even in the next one hour. As simple as that,” Shamakamba said. “Just tell him that look, what time are you ready to meet DG with his team? If you tell me it’s 12:00 hours I will ask, if they want us to go to a different location I can arrange for a location, we go we meet. We take what his complaint is, if he has the evidence we move in.”
Asked if the commission has taken interest to call Masebo on the matter, Shamakamba said he was aware of the matter, but said he would not want to go into “all those issues.”
“But for me I am interested in the guy who is pushing the agenda if he has evidence. Yes!” Shamakamba said, but asked if he felt Mlonzi had substance to the extent that he even went ahead to file the complaint, the ACC boss said: “There is a reason I am asking for him to meet him myself. I don’t want to go into details.”
