Chishimba Kambwili has thanked the Catholic fathers for forcing President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration to ‘slightly’ reduce the price of fuel, but that the real reduction will be when the price of the commodity falls below the K17 during the PF reign to the K12 per litre which the President promised.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kambwili said the reduction in fuel prices was just about playing politics in order to create “graphs”, caused by the pressure from the Catholic Church.
He said that is why it is good for the Church to criticise government as it is the guiltiness from the criticism which forces change.
Kambwili said the price should be reduced further given the fact that a significant portion was not being transported via the roads and hence the reduced cost which should be passed on to consumers.
He accused the administration of having hidden the real cost of the price but have been forced to move following the criticism from the Catholics.
“So thanks to the Catholic priests, Father Salangeti and others, Father Chikoya who have said that what we need is reduced cost of living,” Kambwili said, and that Zambians deserve further reductions to below the K12 the President promised. “When you promise something until you do it the people will be expectant and waiting. So whatever reduction which is above K17 will not make sense to the people of Zambia until the fuel goes below K17 which he condemned and said that it was because of criminality because there were too many middle men and the PF are thieves, that’s why the price of fuel is like that.”
He said Zambians will never stop talking.
“You see the problem we have in this country is that we treat ubufi (lying) as a minor issue in politics. No!” Kambwili said, arguing that in other countries leaders were impeached for lying. “But in this country somebody has been cheating us since he came into office and we take it as normal. No! It’s not normal. Lies can make somebody die. How? You tell somebody the mealie meal will be K20, people will start planning … In the end somebody starts suffering from prolonged illnesses because their projections have fallen through. Some may even think it is attantio na sida but it’s the thinking because you lied to them. And based on your promise they went and used money on other things.”
He wondered how the President could claim that he had performed beyond expectation, wondering what barometer he was using.
“Lyonsefye kulabepafye ubufi (Everyday it’s lying). You think people don’t think. People are suffering more than they were suffering under PF,” said Kambwili.
