Former president Edgar Lungu has told the court that he is not under house arrest for government to stop him from travelling anywhere he wishes to go.
The former president said his right to freedom of movement has not been curtailed for him not to travel anywhere in Zambia or world over.
Meanwhile, president Lungu has submitted that the State’s decision to stop him from travelling out of the country is illegal.
Last week, president Lungu was scheduled to travel to South Korea where he was supposed to attend a peace summit but the state alledgely ejected him from the plane along with his luggage.
In a petition filed in the Lusaka High Court on Friday, president Lungu explained that the summit was sponsored in full by the inviting party and no money was spent or was to be spent by the government.
He stated that stopping or barring him from traveling caused mental anguish, torture and embarrassment on the eyes of the internatinal community and the host as he was treated like a criminal.
President Lungu said the State failed to give a reason as to why he was not allowed to travel and as a result, he is seeking an interim relief of a conservatory order that the State, it’s servants or agents or whosoever not to interfere with his rights to travel or easily move around as he wishes.
He stated that he is entitled to enjoy his right of movement/ travel as he wishes.
President Lungu also stated that the decision by the Director General at the Immigration to stop or bar him from traveling is illegal.
He is further seeking a declaration that the position that he should seek permission from the government before he can travel is illegal and not supported by the law.
President Lungu is therefore, seeking special damages for the inconvenience caused to him by the State among other reasons.
