UPND 2021 Chawama losing candidate Potipher Tembo says he stands ready to contest Chawama in the event that Tasila Lungu’s seat is declared vacant.
In December last year, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) said Chawama PF member of parliament Tasila Lungu was on the most wanted list.
But Tasila on her Facebook page stated that she would come back to Zambia once house sittings opened, stressing that she got permission from Parliament before traveling.
And Tasila’s lawyer Charles Changano assured the nation that his client would appear before the DEC offices on February 10, 2025 without fail.
Speaking in an interview, Tembo said politicians were always ready for anything and if a by-election was declared, he was ready to contest.
“We as politicians, we stand ready for anything. But in an event where there is a by-election and people of Chawama decide that I contest, I will. And if the party itself should decide to adopt me when I apply, I will contest,” he said. “You know; politics is not about yourself, it’s about the people and if you belong to the party, it’s also about the party choosing you or not. But I stand ready should the party or the people of Chawama decide that I contest in an event of a by-election.”
Tembo said as much as he was ready to contest, he was also ready to wait for any outcome.
“But we stand to wait, if she comes or if she doesn’t come. We are ready as a political party. Us, we will wait and you know, declaring a by-election is a process of that nature that is not decided within a day but we wish her well as we wait,” said Tembo.
