It is very possible for me to join Fred M’membe’s Socialist Party, says Bowman Lusambo.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Lusambo said he has huge respect for “Comrade M’membe” whom he said he has known from the time the SP leader was in the corporate world at defunct Post Newspapers, saying he “worked with him” during his time as a diehard in MMD. He said he used to visit The Post and Dr M’membe would do editorials sometimes on him, and therefore he was not shocked to receive the gesture to support him in Kabushi and Kwacha against UPND injustice.
He said forming an alliance with Dr M’membe would not be a bad idea, describing the same as a very good idea, arguing that the opposition in the country was fighting one common enemy.
Lusambo said he would prefer for the alliance not to be a loose one, but one that will bring all the opposition parties together in the country with one agenda and one manifesto.
But asked under what format that same alliance would exist as Dr M’membe was a hard core socialist while those in PF were hardcore capitalists, Lusambo argued that there was a possibility of meeting in the middle by agreeing on the fundamentals.
He said the common denominator was serving the people.
But asked if he would entertain the idea of joining SP one day to work with Dr M’membe, Lusambo said: “It is very possible. It is very possible yes. It is very possible. I am a politician and I can join any political party I feel like joining. I can. Yes! Very possible. Yes! Yes! Very possible actually. Very possible. Yes!”
Lusambo also said an an ex official for the government he felt that Zambia’s relations with Russia and China must be very strong seeing that these were the two countries who were there for the country when it was not fashionable.
He said most of the equipment the country was using was from Russia, including the presidential jet purchased under the administration of Edgar Lungu, which President Hichilema has not used thus far due to several outstanding issues surrounding the matter, saying Russia and Zambia are supposed to be phone and simcard.
On the statement from Home Affairs minister that the thugs who used to committ violence under the PF have now joined UPND and Socialist Party (SP), Lusambo said UPND has always been a violent party going as far back as the Mapatizya and Mufumbwe elections and many other areas where UPND have participated in elections.
He said Mwiimbu must just own up and address the UPND violence.
“How can the UPND commit an offence and leaders in UPND start saying no actually these are not our people but they are our people again? They are saying two things. Yes they are our people but they are coming from the PF. Adept they are your people and they have committed an offence,” said Lusambo.
