Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba has given Anti-Corruption Commission director general Tom Shamakamba seven days within which to disclose the nature of the investigations against Solicitor General Marshal Muchende, failure to which he will seek legal redress in the courts of law to force the commission’s hand.
Daily Revelation recently broke a news story from State House sources revealing that the ACC has placed a restriction order on the house belonging to Muchende over assertions that he received over US$500,000 from a named former liquidator, but that powerful forces were maneuvering to stop the investigations.
Contributing to the debate, Kabimba has since written to the commission, saying his own impeccable sources have collaborated the Daily Revelation story.
“Investigations of Acts of alleged corruption by the Solicitor General: We refer to the above matter and wish to inform you that we act for the Economic Front Party in respect of the same and hence note our professional interest,” Kabimba stated in the letter to Shamakamba, saying his sources have told him that ACC has decided to withhold information from the general public in the on-going investigations against Muchende. “This silence is contrary to your well-established policy of keeping the general public informed about investigations in matters of public interest “
Kabimba stated that his clients were therefore surprised at the manner the Commission was dealing with the matter “due to this status of Mr. Muchende and his party affiliation as an active member of UPND.”
“In view of the foregoing, we have instructions that unless you publicly disclose the nature of the investigations against Mr. Muchende within 7-days from the date hereof, we shall proceed to apply for judicial review and seek an order of Mandamus against yourself as Director General. We hope you will not allow this matter to reach to that extent,” warned Kabimba.
