The UPND administration is secretly employing its cadres in the health sector, says Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba.
And Kabimba said those criticising President Hakainde Hichilema over his frequent travels are asking questions on whether the President is a hypocrite, a liar and if he is a man of integrity, and wondered what county’s image he was repairing by going for his friend’s book launch in South Africa.
Speaking with Daily Revelation over the unemployed doctors protests who are demanding to be employed by the government, Kabimba said the doctors should not be blamed as it was the same government which said the health workers who have been working as volunteers will be the first to be given priority.
“But the same volunteers are saying non of us has been employed. If you are saying the process has started, if recruitment has started and those guys see nobody employed, it means UPND are employing its cadres,” Kabimba said. “Health workers deserve answers instead of sending them riot police. I saw the demonstration in front of my house. They were peaceful and deserve an answer. You cannot make pronouncements that you are employing and the basket you are drawing from is full.”
And Kabimba said President Hichilema viciously condemned the foreign travels of his predecessors, most recently those of Edgar Lungu, saying some of the travels the former president was doing could have been handled by the foreign missions abroad, and therefore those raising issues about his own frequent travels were simply holding him accountable to his own words.
“Is he a hypocrite? Is he a liar? Is he a man of integrity?” Kabimba asked. “He says he is going round to repair the country’s image that was damaged. How does going to South Africa to launch a book for his friend repair the damaged image of the country?”
Kabimba said President Hichilema was old enough during the time Dr Kenneth Kaunda was president to have appreciated something about the former head of state’s travels.
He said whenever Dr Kaunda would return from his travels he would inform the nation that he would report developments about his trip to the UNIP central committee and to Cabinet and that thereafter he would hold press briefings to inform the nation on the relevance of his trip.
“Now we have Presidents who go out and keep quiet as if they are using their own money without accountability to the public,” Kabimba said.
He said there was a tendency by politicians to speak one language when they were in the opposition and do the exact opposite when they were in power, saying people are fast awakening to this now.
“If Michael Sata could have done it when he took power from MMD and nobody held him accountable, but times have changed now…it’s time those of us in politics come to realise that times have changed. The people’s memory is now lasting longer than in the past,” said Kabimba.
