National Democratic Congress (NDC) secretary general Charles Kabwita has admitted to causing a breach of peace in the courts of law and has paid K100 for the offence.
And Kabwita has demanded justice, saying he wants the police to act on his matter where he reported Kafue council mayor Buumba Malambo over assertions she issued tribal remarks.
Kabwita narrated to Daily Revelation that he took food for Kambwili who was detained in police cells at the time, but when he was told by the police officer that the food had been taken at the wrong time, Kabwita argued that the food must be given to his uncle as he had not eaten since morning and has a condition which demands that he should have regular meals.
But Kabwita said the police officer told him that if anything were to go wrong with Kambwili it would be his fault.
“That’s when I got upset and said awee kanshi ninshi nabakutuma ati umwipaye (May be you have been assigned to kill him), now the method that you want to use is starvation. That’s how he locked me up too and charged me with conduct likely to cause breach of peace at the police station,” Kabwita said. “So I was taken to court and admitted guilt as charged and paid K100. And they put us in the same cell as Kambwili and his elder brother, pastor Kambwili. I was released around 17 hours (yesterday).”
And Kabwita has demanded that Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba to expedite the investigations against Kafue mayor (UPND) Buumba Malambo over what he said where tribal sentiments he reported her on for urging people to vote for Tonga candidates.
He said he remained hopeful that the police would respond in the same manner they have responded to the report against Kambwili, saying he reported the matter in August last year but was of the view that it has taken too long for the police to respond.
“And I just want to appeal to police command that the day they will deal with Buumba Malambo I want them not to mistreat her like they have mistreated honourable Chishimba Kambwili. Dr Chishimba Kambwili did not deserve that treatment of being transported from Lusaka to Kasama like a criminal. Like he has killed a person,” Kabwita said, adding that police must treat Malambo well in the event she were arrested. “And I just want to appeal to the police that please I do not want to speculate that you are favoring Buumba Malambo because she is UPND mayor and member of the top management committee of the UPND. I want to believe that the IG is serving the interests of all Zambians regardless of one’s political affiliation, and the IG is not only there to serve the interests of the politicians. The IG is there for all the Zambians regardless of tribe…regardless of color.”
He said he did not want to start speculating that the the IG was wearing UPND lenses to deal with Malambo’s case, saying he was disappointed with the response towards that matter.
“I do not wish to see Buumba Malambo struggling to get a police bond like honourable Chishimba Kambwili struggled until the court granted him a bail. Police refused, literally refused to give a bond. Please don’t do this to my dear sister Buumba Malambo. Ensure that she comes with her sureties, ensure that you do all the procedures. Arrest and please give a bond,” said Kabwita.
