In what some view as President Hakainde Hichilema’s ‘massage’ of Stanley Kakubo’s exit from cabinet, the now former Foreign Affairs minister yesterday announced his resignation following allegations of alleged corruption.
Kakubo has been accused of having sold a mine to other people after allegedly receiving money from Lianam Mining, with him having received a payment of $200,000.
The recent scandal followed up on the other one where the former minister was seen carrying a hefty briefcase containing what he said were calendars, something that was mockingly scorned upon by members of the public.
In a press statement by the President yesterday issued by State House Chief Communications Analyst Clayson Hamasaka, the President stated that he accepted Kakubo’s exit, acknowledging the “commendable work and leadership that Kakubo rendered to the government.
Kakubo succumbed to pressure after social media social media was awash with pictures and videos where it was alleged that Kakubo received cash and a Mercedes Benz vehicle from a Chinese mining company.
It was later reported that the minister had been asked by President Hichilema to explain allegations over the money and vehicle he was alleged to have received from the mining company.
Later Hamasaka has stated that President Hakainde Hichilema has accepted the resignation of Kakubo from his Cabinet position as minister of foreign affairs and International Cooperation.
Hamasaka stated that President Hichilema had acknowledged the commendable work and leadership that Kakubo had rendered to the government during his tenure as minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation since the inception of the government.
He stated that the President thanked the former minister for his service to the government as Cabinet minister and implored him to continue to serve diligently in his capacity as Member of Parliament for Kapiri Mposhi Constituency.
