Ex Chipolopolo captain and 2012 AFCON winner Rainford Kalaba’s condition is reportedly improving after the midfielder survived a horrific car accident on Saturday that claimed the life of the person he was traveling with.
UTH spokesperson Nezba Chanda in a media update in Lusaka yesterday on Kalaba’s status that there is a positive improvement in the ex-midfielders condition.
Kalaba has been admitted at UTH since the accident last Saturday.
“As at today, he has improved and he is improving. It’s a continuous process. He is stable and improving every day. Our doctors are doing the best they can as we have seen from the time he came, things have changed positively,” Chanda said.
“The only thing we can say is that he is stable and is improving and that treatment is going on and he is okay in terms of the process of improvement.”
Chanda added that they’re no immediate plans to send Kalaba abroad.
“On evacuation, that one has not been decided yet as the minister said earlier, it is up to the doctors to decide but for now we are doing the best we can.
“It hasn’t reached that level. Improvement is an ongoing process. You will see that a lot of things will keep on adding. It’s a continuous process. The doctors are there and monitoring.”
Chanda also warned that Kalaba’s ward is a highly restricted area and that the public should respect the ex Chipolopolo and TP Mazembe player’s privacy.
“Every institution you go to has got ethics and for now we cannot allow every person to come and see him. Those are ethics and conditions we have. We know at which stage; people will be allowed to see him. We appeal to the public to give him a bit of privacy,” Chanda said.
“Let the doctors do their job. Time will come when they will be allowed to see him. We are more than ready to give the public updates. There is no need for us to be dramatic about coming here. Let’s follow the right channel unlike crowding this place.”
