Chishimba Kambwili has justified the shut down of internet to Facebook and whatsapp servers, citing security risk.
And Kambwili said it was too early to call the election as the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has not even updated the nation on the election results, saying however that in the end the will of the people will have to prevail.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kambwili said he could not comment on the results coming out as there was no Facebook or even Whatsapp in the country, saying he was only relying on getting information through tv.
But asked if he thought internet should be opened then so that he could see the results, Kambwili said security was more important than anything else.
“If internet is closed as a result of security risk where even a human life has been lost, I mean my brother you must be serious. Let this thing just be free and fair, and at the end of it all the will of the people must be respected. But I can’t comment on any result because I haven’t seen any,” he said.
Put across to him if those in the PF were also preparing their emotions for a possible loss even as they awaited official ECZ results, Kambwili said there were no emotions in elections as they were about a democratic process, “and if a particular party or the party in government wins, it’s the will of the people. No emotions.”
He said “when results come out, there is no emotions attached to it because that is the democracy that we called for.”
Asked if the PF was going to court to stop ECZ from announcing the results, Kambwili said he was not privy to that information, therefore he couldn’t comment.
