Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has handed over a K23 million cheque 2 to Mulonga Water and Sanitation (MWSC) as part of creditors settlements in accordance with the Scheme of Arrangement.
KCM chief operation officer Malcolm Mewett said during the official handover at KCM head office in Chingola yesterday that Vedanta Resources Limited had begun to pay KCM creditors and it had already paid the councils on whose land the KCM assets were domiciled.
Mewett said KCM management desired to make sure that all creditors were paid expeditiously in accordance with the rules under the Scheme of Arrangement.
“The payment to Mulonga Water, as a critical partner to KCM’s operations, was a clear demonstration of KCM’s commitment to paying all creditors in both Class One and Class Two under the Scheme of Arrangement,” Mewett said.
He also said the company was looking forward to work with the utility company in delivering quality water services to its customers.
And Mulonga Water And Sanitation managing director engineer Ndilakulampa Hamalambo expressed happiness over KCM’s decision to prioritise paying the water utility with the second payments, saying the money would be used for efficient water service delivery for the benefit of the local people.
Hamalambo said his company was pleased to have received the money from KCM which would not only benefit Chingola residents, but also communities in other towns where the company existed.
“As you may be aware, apart from operating in Chingola, Mulonga Water operates in Mufulira, and Chililabombwe districts, and this money will benefit the communities in these areas to a greater extent,” said Hamalambo.
