The Kuta has summoned all the indunas and chiefs in Western Province to Mongu for deliberations, following the raging debate in the country after President Hakainde Hichilema said that there is no nation called Barotseland.
And the Ngambela (prime minister) of the Barotse Royal Establishment, Mukela Manyando, has confirmed ongoing meetings in the Province to Daily Revelation, but said he could only divulge details of the discussions after the deliberations were over.
Well-placed sources have told Daily Revelation that the recent statement by President Hichilema did not sit well with inhabitants in the area, and that Indunas and Chiefs have [pp-logged-users] since been summoned to give an appropriate response to his remarks.
Contacted for comment on the information that the Kuta had summoned chiefs and indunas in Western Province, the Ngambela said: “Yes, that’s true.”
He said “the meeting is on right now”, and that there will be a statement from the same deliberations but did not specify which day that will be.
“Maybe tomorrow. It can’t be later than tomorrow,” the Ngambela said.
Asked on the matter under discussion, he said it would be better to wait for the statement on the matter, as revealing it in piecemeal might make the whole thing lose its context.
But asked about the fact that the information Daily Revelation had received was over the issue raised by the President recently that there is no nation called Barotseland in Zambia, the Ngambela laughed.
“What do you think yourself? Yes you are a journalist but you are also a citizen of the Republic. Yes … I would suggest that you wait until the meeting is over. The meeting is on right now. It will be I think unfair for me to start commenting on the issues that other people are talking about,” said Ngambela. “Thank you, thank you. We appreciate your interest and it is in the interest of the nation as well. Thank you so much,”
