Former Higher Education minister Professor Nkandu Luo has expressed sadness at how the country has lost love and empathy for one another.
Prof Luo who just lost her daughter in the early hours of this morning was summoned by the police for interrogations at the police headquarters in Lusaka.
Speaking after the interrogation, Prof Luo said she had explained to the police that her daughter was very sick but they asked for documents to prove that she had a terminal illness.
“I have had discussions here at the force headquarters, about the fact that I have a predicament, I have a daughter who is dying. They asked me for documentation to prove that the young lady is coming back from India, all the documentation from the doctors that she had a terminal illness, including the statement that she was dying,” she said.
Prof Luo said although she explained to the police, they insisted that she should avail herself before the police.
“So I came as a mourning mother, I came for interrogation and whatever they decided they want to do, I told them to go ahead and do it, but my lawyer decided I shouldn’t go ahead and do it. But I was ready,” she said.
Prof Luo wondered what was happening in the country such that people were happy when others were passing through hard times.
“There is no love in this country, there is no empathy in this country. When your friend has a bereavement, it makes sense to other people. So I’m here as a grieving mother and availed myself for the interrogation,” she said.
It is reported that Prof Luo was summoned to the police in connection with the remarks she made that Drug Enforcement Commission ( DEC) had summoned former president Edgar Lungu’s children for questioning after his demise.
