Former Parliamentarians Association of Zambia says late president Edgar Lungu demonstrated commitment to constitution and worked to embed promotion of Christian values, national unity, national values and principles into the governance framework.
And FPAZ says the government must be allowed to accord Lungu a befitting funeral.
In a press statement signed by association president Yisukanji Siwanzi and general secretary Ponde Mecha, FPAZ stated that Lungu’s leadership helped elevate the Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation, which remains a cornerstone of Zambia’s identity.
“As FPAZ, we recognize President Lungu’s efforts to advance infrastructure development, empower citizens through economic initiatives, and uphold peace and stability even amidst political transitions. His contributions to Zambia’s democratic evolution and socioeconomic progress remain etched in our national memory,” stated FPAZ. “While his passing occurs at a time when questions surround his political status, we urge the nation to rise above division and acknowledge his lifelong service. We appeal to the Lungu family and the State to consider allowing the government to accord him a befitting state funeral. Such an act will not only honor his contributions but will also reflect the values of reconciliation, unity, and national respect for former leaders.”
