Edgar Lungu told us that he has retired from active politics, says leader of them opposition in parliament Brian Mundubile.
In an interview with Daily Revelation, Mundubile said that former president Lungu is not actively involved in politics, but has a Constitutional right to give “counsel” on governance and other issues affecting the country.
The Mporokoso member of parliament explained that president Lungu can only be considered to be actively practising politics if he was “still holding an elective or appointed position in the Patriot Front.”
“Well, what I can say is that I cannot put words in the mouth of president Edgar Lungu. But what I can remember is that he told us that he has retired from active politics. But even in his retirement, he said that he has the conscience to offer advice on political issues and the governance of the country,” Mundubile said. “You have to take note of the fact that the former Head of State has a right gauranteed in the Constitution to express his opinions on various issues that include politics, agriculture and economics. And for your records, I would want to tell you that president Edgar Lungu has made it clear that he has retired from active politics. The question is for, the purposes of you to define whether by virtue being in retirement, elective position or is having having political authority on a particular political party? For me, I feel that president Edgar Lungu is not actively involved in politics. There is nothing wrong with President Edgar Lungu to be available to give counsel to political players. Like I have said, he has a Constitutional right to freedom of expression.
And Mundubile has said called on Central Government to expedite the process of ironing out the “bottlenecks in the implementation of the Constituency Development Fund” projects.
“We have not yet started the implementation of those projects in Mporokoso Constituency. We are still facing those challenges, bottlenecks to do with the Constituency Development Fund guidelines. We are going in the next budget cycle and we are not making progress. It does not make sense! I think that government should urgently address those issues so that we make progress,” said Mundubile.
