LUNGU MUST CHECK HIMSELF, SAYS CHARITY BANDA

Let Edgar Lungu check himself before accusing others of hypocrisy, says the PF’s Charity Banda

Speaking with Daily Revelation on former president Edgar Lungu’s assertions of hypocrisy when he said some people say good things but end up doing bad things, which some had interpreted as an attack on President Hakainde Hichilema, Banda said president Lungu should check himself also, because “his own house is not in order”, accusing the former president of fomenting division within the former ruling PF, instead of just letting go as former head of state and allow people to choose a leader of their own choice.

“He can say that (about hypocrisy), but let him also check himself. Where does he stand? His own house is not in order. Why? Because of the same hypocrisy,” Banda, the elected Lusaka provincial chairlady in the recently dissolved committee, said. “At the end of the day uulila tabamucheba kukanwa (don’t stop the one who is mourning).”

Banda said president Lungu had felt how it feels like for “people to speak bad about you”, saying there was a lot that the former president could have controlled during his time in power but he decided to pay a blind eye.

However, Banda said she will never lose sight of the fact that there were also a lot of achievements which the former president achieved, which he must be hailed for, rather than remembering them when he was no more.

She urged president Lungu to work towards unifying the former ruling party which ushered him into government, saying some battles were better fought when “others are speaking for you”, rather than getting one self into the battle field.

“He is not guiding his people he has appointed properly,” said Banda, saying while she stood on the fact that the former president must reflect on his own words, she also agreed with what he was saying about the incumbent’s hypocrisy.

“It takes two to tangle,” she said.

Asked if she felt the UPND administration would lift the former president’s immunity for prosecution, Banda said anything can happen as in this same county immunities for two former presidents, Frederick Chiluba and Rupiah Banda, have been lifted before.
