Daily Revelation is learning that several of former president Edgar Lungu’s associates are willing to cooperate with the government as state witnesses in return for indemnity against falling in trouble with the new administration.
But former political advisor to president Lungu, Chris Zumani Zimba said “If there is such information.
“There are several of the former president’s associates who have not been touched yet. It’s not by design as some have indicated that they are ready to cooperate as state witnesses in return for indemnity. Others are also providing some very vital information to the government in the ongoing investigations,” sources said. “Several people want to reveal their part. You call the former president’s former political advisor Zumani Zimba, Information has it that he was one of those that was adamant on urging the former president to concede defeat as some scolded him that conceding would put them in trouble with the current State House occupant President Hakainde Hichilema.
“What the state wants is to get Lungu into a corner so that people can judge for themselves what happened.”
But when contacted for comment on the information that he was being talked to as a state witness, Zimba said he did not have that information, asking the journalist to specify what it was he was being engaged on.
When it was mentioned that it was investigations, including those bordering on the former president, Zimba referred the queries to former State House press aide Isaac Chipampe, saying he was the one who used to engage the media during their time at State House on behalf of the former president.
But put to him that it would be improper to call Chipampe as he was no longer holding public office, Zimba said he too was no longer holding public office.
However, Daily Revelation told Zimba that he had been specifically contacted because he was among those who had been specifically mentioned among the former officials, and not Chipampe.
Responding, Zimba said he did not give interviews to the media.
“To start with you see even when I was at State House I never used to give media interviews. Even now I don’t give media interviews. If there is such information I can’t give it to the media until I am engaged. You see the point?” said Zimba. “I will speak to the right institutions if I am engaged, when and if, I am engaged. I don’t think I am that type of person who go to the media and begin to say ABCD. I don’t think so because professionally it’s not right for me.”
