Kashimba confirmed the incident in an interview with Daily Revelation, saying this occurred on February 4, 2024 around 05:00 hours.

“This occurred on 4th February, 2042 between 05:00 hours and 05:30 hours at Sunshine Supermarket in Mkushi district. Mkushi Police station received a report of fire incidence from Barnabas Mwansa, aged 49, of Itala compound Mkushi, reported on behalf of Sunshine Supermarket management owned by male Frank Simalumba Wabei (aged 45) years old of high cost area Mkushi district and businessman by occupation, to the effect that the Supermarket caught fire and property value not yet known has been completely burnt to ashes,” Kashimba explained. “Brief facts of the matter are that on 4th February, 2024 around 05:00 hours the security guard whilst guarding the shop, he heard a bang of sound inside the Supermarket from the kitchen section (and) at that time nobody was working and the store was secured and locked only security lights were on. He then went behind the building to check what could have caused the bang sound. Upon checking, he saw smoke coming from one of the chimneys, he then opted to phone the store supervisor Natasha Chileshe (who is aged 30 years) of town center area in Mkushi district, who rushed to the Supermarket and found smoke was coming from everywhere in the building. Mkushi Fire Brigade had already arrived trying to put off the fire but to no avail, until all the property were completely burnt to ashes except for a few things which were retrieved and kept outside for safe keeping.”
