M’membe has failed to connect with Zambians – Mufalali

Government chief whip Likando Mufalali says Socialist Party leader Dr Fred M’membe has failed to connect with the Zambian people and that is why he is struggling politically.

And Mufalali said Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) leader Kelvin Bwalya Fube popularly known as KBF brought nothing to the UPND alliance.

Last week, Dr M’membe accused President Hakainde Hichilema of commencing illegal early campaigns after the President addressed a public rally in Kabwe.

But in an interview on Sunday, Mufalali said M’membe was struggling politically.

“He is struggling to gain popularity; he is struggling to bring people to himself. So he has joined with people who are literally failures. So it is a difficult time for them, but I sympathise with them,” he said. “They will not make a grade in this country. Somehow, they have to align themselves with people who can make the grade, people who are able to attract people.”

Mufalali said as opposed to M’membe, President Hichilema was attracting crowds wherever he went because he was very popular.

On Fube’s remarks that the UPND government had failed and must, therefore, be voted out in 2026, Mufalali said the opposition leader lived in dreamland and did not understand what was happening in Zambia.

He said KBF brought nothing to the UPND Alliance when he joined but President Hakainde was kind to accommodate him.

“Yes, he came as an individual and he said he had a party and look, President Hakainde is such a loving person. He is such a person who actually wants to welcome everyone,” said Mufalali. “Even when he accommodated Bwalya Fube, some of us were very apprehensive. We know Mr KBF. We know that when it comes to politics, he adds nothing, he adds no value.”
