Socialist Party (SP) leader Fred M’membe is too intelligent to be human, says new SP member Paul Moonga.
“The man is extra-intelligent. I never knew this man is too intelligent to be a human being. He’s humble, he’s quiet, he’s vegetarian. He is alcohol free person. He’s an extraordinary leader. M’membe Fred is an extraordinary leader,” Moonga said to Daily Revelation Media.
But asked how he had managed to come up with such an impression of the man he has barely worked with having joined only a month ago, Moonga said he had never experienced a situation where a leader of a political party conducted class lessons for his followers.
“I have never gone through in my leader where a leader of a party takes you in a class to teach you like Grade 1 children, to teach you about what he believes in and he challenges you, all of you are educated, you are degree holders and he has no book to lecture you in all the subjects. Everything just flowing from the heart,” Moonga said. “I have never been lectured by any president, not Chiluba, not Mwanawasa, not RB, not Sata not ba Lungu. But this is a man who takes you in a class to understand the ideologies of socialism and everything else. Socialism versus capitalism.”
Moonga, the new convent to socialism, said capitalism was nothing but individualism but socialism was about humanity.
“And we live in a humane society when we are born as children. It’s only that the Moslems by nature they are polygamists, they can marry three wives by Quran. Anywhere else in Zambia, people cheat. One man you know you have a girl friend there, you would cheat that you have one wife. You are cheating. You have children somewhere there, you can’t look after them,” Moonga said. “As I speak to you now, I am at a farm in Moomba, where I take care of my sister in law, my late young brother’s wife. She’s a widow. I buy her lotion, Vaseline, cooking oil, ka sopo, bread and so forth. We live in a society where we have to take care of each other. Those who have should take care of those who don’t have. That’s all about socialism. It’s to take care of each other. You become your brother’s keeper.”
Moonga described capitalism as the manifestation of selfishness, saying people did not care whether their neighbors had mealie meal or other necessities.
He said at the rate SP was moving “it was bushfire” saying others would fail to cope.
And Moonga said the incessant complaints Southern Province minister Cornelius Mweetwa received yesterday on the high cost of living during his appearance on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk programme represented the general mood in the nation on the challenges people were going through emanating from increased fuel prices.
He said for the first time in the country’s history, the price of diesel was higher than than of petrol, with the cost of diesel increasing to over K12 and that of petrol increasing by over K9 since the UPND assumed office.
Moonga said most heavy duty transportation in the country relied on diesel, therefore wondering how the cost of living could be expected to come down when the price of the commodity kept escalating.
He dismissed the single digit inflation rate of 9.7 percent as having little bearing on the prices of general goods in the economy which kept escalating and subsequently making life unbearable for the general populace.
“My young brother HH said the price of fuel was high because of the middle men. The price of diesel if now K28 from K17, and petrol is K26.95 from K17.61. Now why hasn’t he removed the middle men to bring the price down?” asked Moonga.
