Former Parliamentary Association of Zambia (FPAZ) says late former Defence minister George Mpombo will remembered for being a maestro of the English language which made him to be liked by the Zambian public.
In a statement signed by FPAZ president Yizukanji Siwanzi and secretary general Ponde Mecha, the association expressed profound and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mpombo, whom he described as distinguished former minister of Defence and a paragon of linguistic grandeur in the annals of Zambian political discourse.
“Hon Mpombo passed on in the late hours of Sunday, 22nd September, 2024 in Ndola. Hon. Mpombo was not merely a legislator; he was a maestro of the English lexicon, whose oratory prowess and unparalleled command of bombastic vocabulary captivated the nation,” Siwanzi stated.
He stated that his inimitable style turned political dialogue into an educational spectacle, making him a beloved figure whose legacy transcends the boundaries of conventional politics.
Siwanzi further stated that FPAZ celebrated Mpombo’s unparalleled contribution to the art of discourse.
“Reflecting on his approach to public discourse, Hon. Mpombo once aptly stated, “We are not in a political kindergarten, and this is not a verbal jamboree. We must engage in intellectually enriching discourse that propels this nation forward.” His words continue to resonate, reminding us of the critical role of thoughtful dialogue in shaping our nation’s future,” he stated.
“In these moments of bereavement, we join the nation in mourning not only a former leader but also an indomitable icon of verbal virtuosity. We celebrate his unparalleled contribution to the art of discourse, which brought both levity and intellectual enrichment to our national conversations.”
