He said the commission had done so in order to provide clarity on their allegations.
Speaking during a press briefing at Elections House in Lusaka today, Kasaro said ECZ had summoned some individuals, after noting a lot of misinformation and disinformation on the ongoing mass voter registration.
He said the Electoral Code of Conduct mandated the commission to summon any individual that contravened the electoral code of conduct.
“The Commission has noted a lot of misinformation and disinformation from stakeholders regarding the ongoing mass voter registration exercise. Some of these allegations are unsubstantiated and an injury to the credibility of the process,” Kasaro said. “To this effect, the commission has decided to summon some of these individuals who have been making unsubstantiated commentaries to provide clarity or more information about the allegations in accordance with Regulation 11(2) of the Electoral Code of Conduct which mandates the commission to summon any person contravening the Electoral Code of Conduct.”
Meanwhile, Kasaro said ECZ had so far managed to register 200,080 in the ongoing phase one of the mass voter registration, out of which 95,907 were new registrations.
“During phase one, the commission has recorded a provisional total of 200,080 registrations broken down as follows: – 95,907 new registrations – further broken down as follows; Males – 43,987, Females – 51,920 – 104,173 updates (these include transfers and replacements),” Kasaro said.
And Kasaro said in order to support the voter registration exercise, the commission had distributed 2000 voter registration kits and generator sets across the country.
“To support the voter registration exercise, the commission has distributed over 2,000 voter registration kits and generator sets across the country. This equipment is critical to ensuring that registration activities proceed smoothly, including in areas with limited or no access to electricity,” said Kasaro. “In addition, the commission has put in place contingency measures to guarantee operational efficiency throughout the registration period. A team of technical support officers is assigned to each province to swiftly attend to any technical issues that may arise with registration kits or generator sets. This proactive approach ensures minimal disruption to the registration process and sustained service delivery in all centres.”
