Lumezi member of Parliament Munir Zulu queried Vice- President Mutale Nalumango’s silence over revelations by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) board member Dr. O’Brien Kaaba that the institution has become corrupt.
During urgent matters without notice in Parliament yesterday, Zulu wondered why Nalumango was mute when the institution that fought corruption in the country was divided.
“Madam speaker you may wish to know, a renowned academician Dr O’Brien Kaaba who is a member of the board of the ACC has in the last few days made serious revelations of how corrupt the institution has become. They could be allegations madam speaker. When some of us spoke to this matter in the budget of 2022, we were vilified, victimised and called all sorts of names. Madam Speaker, is Her Honor the Vice- President in order to be mute while the institution that champions and fights corruption is deeply divided between the board and its management,” he asked.
In response, Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti asked the Vice-President to issue a statement before the house.
Mutti said people needed to know what was going on hence Nalumango should issue a ministerial statement on Thursday.
“This issue of ACC and Dr Kaaba has been going round and I recall honorable member for Mpika referred to it and I asked him to put it in a question and he has not done so. I believe members of the public are entitled to know what is happening. And also government to clear the air, to the people what is happening. So Her Honour the Vice-President can come back on Thursday to give a ministerial statement on this matter and in another way the government to tell the people what is happening at ACC,” she ordered.
