Davies Chama says the only thing that has been fulfilled about the UPND slogan of ‘Zambia forward’ is that prices of essential goods and services are going forward now, and making life more unbearable for the suffering Zambians.
And Chama said President Hakainde Hichilema and his people”must for once own up and tell the truth”, saying it will be embarrassing for them in the event former KCM liquidator Milingo Lungu produced evidence of the meetings held with the President and other senior government officials for his immunity from prosecution.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Chama, the PF acting national chairman and former Defence minister, claimed that nothing has been fulfilled from the time the UPND got into office.
“Yah! Yah! In terms of going forward, in terms of prices that one has been fulfilled. Everything is going forward. Prices are going forward. They are going up higher and higher,” Chama said.
But put to him that the CDF has been increased exponentially and that there was now free education from Grade 1-12 in government schools, Chama said: “It was not even part of their promise (CDF). It was not there in the manifesto. What free education you? K200 per term is free education? I mean let’s be serious as a country. K200 per term? And you call that free education. That is a joke.
He said removing K200 from the fees was nothing.
“I mean what is K200 per term? That was just going to pay, you know schools have these security people they employed to look after the school infrastructure. They had the cleaners okay who were cleaning of schools. Sometimes because shortages of funding from the ministry or delayed funding,” Chama said.
He said it was time the President refocused his efforts, having promised much during the campaign period.
“The youths are yearning for employment. You saw the running battles between the police and the youths because he promised that he will give the youths decent employment. I think it’s high time he started addressing the promises he made rather than what he has been focusing on. Even the people outside the country are noticing that the man and his administration have focused more about persecution about the previous administration, as if that will solve the challenges our country is going through,” Chama said. “If I was to advise the President he needs to reboot and refocus so that he doesn’t lose what he has always aspired to deliver to the Zambians people, in terms of transforming, developing, creating employment. But this kind of witch-hunt is subtracting a big deal from his administration.”
Chama said if people are suspected to have done wrong there are institutions to follow them up rather than remote controlling state institutions over which people to arrest.
Drawing attention to the Milingo issue, Chama said it was high time people became honest with the matters of governance.
“You know, liars are people who are not supposed to be trusted. A liar is basically is equivalent to a crook. A liar and a crook are just the same. You cannot run a country in crookedness or on the basis of lies. If you did something and you realize you made a mistake just come out and say we made a mistake here, and the Zambian people are very magnanimous enough,” Chama said. “For once I think people must start telling the truth. For once people must own up otherwise it will be very embarrassing if at all they capture them on camera and then we start seeing videos circulating that indeed people met and now they are denying that they didn’t meet yet they met. I think the lawyers should have been talking from the point of facts. They are talking from the point of facts. I believe that if they are claiming that they met definitely they met and did discuss these matters.”
