Copperbelt minister Elisha Matambo has urged the citizenry to stop harbouring bitterness towards one another as it is poisonous and prevents them from succeeding.
Matambo said yesterday during a church service at Bread of Life Church International in Luanshya that people were failing to progress in different spheres of life due to bitterness.
After the service at which he delivered a sermon, Matambo posted on Facebook and urged Zambians to guard against bitterness.
“Our sermon was entitled “Let it Go and our Bible verse was taken in Matthew 6:14-15 which says for if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your father will not forgive your sins,” he said. “We highlighted that people are failing to succeed because they can’t let go of the past and bitterness. We warned against harbouring bitterness because it is like poison. Unless people let go of their past, bitterness will consume them, but when they do let go, doors will start opening. We also outlined five steps that can lead to bitterness, such as hurtful words, arguments, injustices, betrayal, and abuse, among others. In addition, we acknowledge people whose wounds are caused by situations beyond their control.”
He stated that if bitterness persisted, it would kill the ability to love fellow human beings.
“We further emphasised that if these issues are left unchecked, they can lead to disappointment, unforgiveness, and eventually bitterness will kill the ability to love our fellow human beings,” he said.
Matambo stated that it was important for Christians to let go of the past and face the present.
“We encouraged our fellow Christians to let go of the past and face the future because that is what our God in heaven wants,” stated Matambo.
