Police in Lusaka have arrested 136 junkies in various crime hot spot areas during their routine patrols.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that during routine patrols conducted from 08:30 hours, the Lusaka Division Police apprehended 136 individuals, comprising 128 males and 8 females.
“This operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by the police to ensure law and order in the city,” Hamoonga stated.
He stated that the suspects were apprehended in various locations including the Bombay Drainage along Burma Road, the Zesco Flyover Bridge along Great East Road, and the Misisi Flyover Bridge, among other hotspots known for criminal activity.
Hamoonga appealed to the public to support the police as they continue this operation to rid the city of these criminal elements, commonly known as junkies who have been terrorising innocent citizens.
He stated that the safety and security of the community remained top priority, and was committed to ensuring that peace and order prevailed in the country.
“The operation will continue, and we urge the public to report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station. Together, we can create a safer and more secure Lusaka for all,” stated Hamoonga.
