Women’s 400 meters runner Rhoda Njobvu and her partner Katundu Lumweka have been arrested and charged by the Zambia Police after being found with a case of producing and circulating of obscene material.
Njobvu and Lumweka are alleged to be two persons in a video circulating online that shows them engaged in a sexually explicit act.
Police Public Relations officer Rae Hamoonga stated yesterday that the duo had been arrested and were in police custody.
“The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public that two individuals that were apprehended in connection with the production and circulation of obscene material, an offence contrary to the provisions of the Penal Code have been formally arrested and charged,” Hamoonga said.
Hamoonga named the accused as Katundu Lumweka, aged 33 of Bwacha Compound in Kabwe who is an employee of the Zambia Correctional Service where she is a Sargent.
The second accused is Rhoda Njovu, aged 31, of House number 54, Ngwerere Road, Roma, Lusaka who is a Staff Sergeant in the Zambia National Service.
“Brief Facts of the Case: It is alleged that the two accused persons jointly produced an obscene video and shared the same through the WhatsApp messaging platform to one of their contacts. Following investigations, the duo has been jointly charged and arrested for one count of Production of Obscene Matters or Things Contrary to Section 177(1)(a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia. Additionally, Rhoda Njovu has been charged with a second count of Circulation of Obscene Matters or Things Contrary to Section 177(1) (b) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia,” Hamoonga said.
Hamoonga said Njobvu and Limweka, are currently in police custody awaiting the granting of Police bond.
